I Have A Dream dancers during a live performance at the Subtext Multi-Arts Festivals.

Hello IHAD members!

I hope that everyone had a great summer and is getting well adjusted into the Autumn schedule again. We had a GREAT year with the I Have A Dream project this year and we’re hoping to bring it back for future years.

Thank you so much for dedicating your time and your talents into the project. Your passion and dedication is what made this program what it is. But there is one more session we would like to have with IHAD before we say it’s over – A dinner and activity evening  hosted by Scarborough Arts while we talk about IHAD memories and more dance stuff.

Make a note in your calendars and keep an eye on your emails. We will be posting a date soon!

Happy Monday IHAD-ers!

This Monday is another break week. I just wanted to remind you of it. So please do not show up at Birkdale Community Centre today.

However, beginning today, we officially count down one week to our next workshop session with Jennifer Robichaud and Jase Cozmic from the Larchaud Dance Project. It kicks off on Monday, July 18 at 5PM sharp and will run until 8PM. It will be held at the Birkdale Community Centre which is located at 1299 Ellesmere Road. The closest intersection is Brimley and Ellesmere. If you are taking the bus, the easiest way to get there is through Midland Station. CLICK HERE FOR TRAVEL INFORMATION.

Make sure you check back for more updates! See you Monday!

Video Shoot

Posted in References, Schedules, Updates on July 5, 2011 by Jen Fabico, IHAD Program Coordinator

Good day IHAD!

Last Tuesday, we had an AMAZING video here on our Scarborough Arts grounds. The team did so great and it was stunning to see everyone is action and putting their best foot forward. I hope that you are very proud of yourselves for this great accomplishment because I am. The staff at Scarborough Arts were thrilled to step out and see what you have trained so hard for.

The IHAD video should be ready for mid August. As soon as we receive it, we will make sure to post and share it with you. But the work does not end at the video shoot. We still havea variety of amazing genres lined up for you as well as the live performance.

We still have Larchaud Pair Dancing, Tutting, Stepping, Flamenco and Afro-Brazilian. Along the way, we will also be refining for the Subtext Arts Festival and will be learning how to get your foot out there as dancers in the real world.

If you are interested in continuing in the dance field, please have a look at this Toolkit. The brand new microsite — which you can visit at www.artreachtoronto.ca/toolkits — contains tons of resources, films and kits developed as part of the Grassroots Organizing and Leadership (GOAL) Youth Capacity Building Workshop Series that has been going strong since 2007.  The workshops create a space for facilitators (many of whom are young people, or those that have been involved in grassroots organizing and project development) to share their insights and resources with youth groups, organizers and artists.  At the new Toolkit site you will find info on a range of topics, from grant-writing to event planning, fundraising and financial management!

Don’t forget that this week and next week is a BREAK WEEK! Please do not attempt to attend any IHAD classes as there will not be one to attend. IHAD Stage 3 will commence of Monday July 18th at Birckdale Community Centre from 5-8PM. We are very excited to start new genres! See you there!

Good day IHAD!

The second genre of I Have a Dream has officially begun! We had a great workshop last week with Melissa Noventa, who taught the movements and stories of Cuban/Brazilian dance. Photos from last week’s workshop will be posted tomorrow, so make sure you check back!

Tomorrow, we will be Jennifer Robichaud and she will be starting us off with our Contemporary genre and will be with us for the next seven weeks. Make sure you bring your dancing shoes; Jennifer is pumped to kick off this new genre with you!

In addition, please have a look at the following curriculum for Stage 2. Within the outline are a lot of the things we touched based on during our last few IHAD meetings as well as some of my notes. If you have any questions regarding it, please contact me directly and we can address any concerns together. At the moment, I am working on the Curriculum for Stage 3. Tomorrow, instead of having a meeting between 4:15 to 5:15, we are going 8:15 to discuss. We may go until 9:00, seeing that our meetings usually go in-depth so just be prepared to stay and discuss.
