Video Shoot

Posted in References, Schedules, Updates on July 5, 2011 by Jen Fabico, IHAD Program Coordinator

Good day IHAD!

Last Tuesday, we had an AMAZING video here on our Scarborough Arts grounds. The team did so great and it was stunning to see everyone is action and putting their best foot forward. I hope that you are very proud of yourselves for this great accomplishment because I am. The staff at Scarborough Arts were thrilled to step out and see what you have trained so hard for.

The IHAD video should be ready for mid August. As soon as we receive it, we will make sure to post and share it with you. But the work does not end at the video shoot. We still havea variety of amazing genres lined up for you as well as the live performance.

We still have Larchaud Pair Dancing, Tutting, Stepping, Flamenco and Afro-Brazilian. Along the way, we will also be refining for the Subtext Arts Festival and will be learning how to get your foot out there as dancers in the real world.

If you are interested in continuing in the dance field, please have a look at this Toolkit. The brand new microsite — which you can visit at — contains tons of resources, films and kits developed as part of the Grassroots Organizing and Leadership (GOAL) Youth Capacity Building Workshop Series that has been going strong since 2007.  The workshops create a space for facilitators (many of whom are young people, or those that have been involved in grassroots organizing and project development) to share their insights and resources with youth groups, organizers and artists.  At the new Toolkit site you will find info on a range of topics, from grant-writing to event planning, fundraising and financial management!

Don’t forget that this week and next week is a BREAK WEEK! Please do not attempt to attend any IHAD classes as there will not be one to attend. IHAD Stage 3 will commence of Monday July 18th at Birckdale Community Centre from 5-8PM. We are very excited to start new genres! See you there!

Hello IHAD family!

We had a great experimental session today and you did a fabulous job, today and thoroughout this ENTIRE genre. Make sure you commend yourselves on all of your hard work and perseverance during this intense 8 week run. You did a fine job and it will show when you do your video.

But please don’t treat this like it is the very end because it is not over yet! Next week we will be having a break from IHAD. Please do not show up to the program as no one will be there to teach or coordinate you next week. Take the break. You deserve it! Instead, we will be meeting again on Friday, May 6th. Please make sure you check your email on the next set of dates, times and locations. You will also receive another email regarding options for the 3rd genre. Please make sure you reply to that poll. Your opinion needs to be heard!

As requested, I have the video posted below on the song to which you recently danced. It is called “Take California” by Propellerheads. See below for the video. Photos and video references from this evening’s workshop will be posted tomorrow. Check back again to see all the deets! For now, enjoy this awesome beat and your week off!

Hello IHAD gang!

We finished up our 7th Hip Hop workshop yesterday which means… we are finally in our home stretch! This is it! Next week is our last Hip Hop class so we are expecting you to bring your all! Whether you are a new IHAD member or you’ve been here since Week 1, we need to see it polished. If you are still unsure, please make sure you run through the videos to familiarize yourself.

Also, I have attached the Call for Dancers above. Please circulate the information. If you want me to email a copy over to you, say the word and I shall send it.

The latest IHAD video is up today too! Check it out!

Also, I was wondering if we should have another meeting as a follow up on last week’s meeting. What are some good weeks for you? Email me and let me know.

Krumpest Krump

Good day IHAD!

I have a special gift for you here today. In order to help you come up with your freestyle, I am posting the “Krumpest Krump Beat” by the Krump Kings. This is what you have been practicing with so far. Hopefully it will help inspire something!

Don’t forget that your freestyle needs to be a 24 count –3 sets of 8s. Let’s see perfect timing next week and LOTS of attitude! Enjoy!

This Week’s News

IHAD instructor Jase Cozmic looks on as the I Have a Dream dance collective practices their Hip Hop routine.

Hi everyone!

I hope you have all had a wonderful and restful week.

Last week, we had an awesome meeting and really got our ideas out there. I just thought I would post some points from our discussion here. Later on, we could have another meeting and discuss where you would like to go  with these ideas.

  • Scarborough Landmarks
  • Lawrence E. Station
  • Studio/Banquet Hall
  • Old school (Prince of Bel-Air)
  • Personality in dance
  • Elegance – Contemporary
  • Rugged and street – Hip Hop
  • Themes to each video
  • Traditional clothing
  • Ethnic backgrounds

Today we will be having Natasha from MYROOTS join us for an interview. She will be capturing you on film as you dance for the last 30 minutes of the class. And she will be staying for 30 minutes after the class to talk and interview you regarding your experiences dancing and at IHAD.

We are scheduled to have another filming on April 12th with Kat and Ben from Scarborough Arts. However, please be advised that it may move up to next week. We ask that you be there for 4 o’clock PM. They will be with us until approximately 4:30PM. We will have interview questions for you and we may ask you to showcase some of your dance moves as well. I know you are all great so don’t be shy!

The new photos from last week have been posted. The videos are still yet to come. Go take a peek!
